What is a Gable?

The gable is the triangular portion of the end walls. It sits up on the main floor walls at the ends of the house. It could be other shapes as with a gambrel (barn) style roof. This portion of the log home can be done in full logs using a combination of vertical logs and rake/rafter logs. By putting a rake log along the roof line on top of a vertical log, this forms a type of log truss and eliminates any movement that is possible with just horizontally stacked logs.
You may also choose to build a stud wall from 2x4 or 2x6 construction on top of the main floor log wall and use matching log siding to give the full log look.
